Play with the dimensions materials

Hospital de la Santa Creu

Our stage is within the old nucleus of Barcelona. Specifically, we are located within the Gardens of Rubió and Lluch, which make up a small historical sanctuary of nature and knowledge.
This place is formed by renowned institutions in the history of Catalan culture. We found the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Barcelona, the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia, the exhibition hall La Capella, the Institute of Catalan Studies together with the Library of Catalonia. And, of course, our point of origin of this project, the old Escola Massana.

All this set creates a space with an elegant and propitious aura to give the enclave to design a space with that cultural and artistic touch that, unfortunately, this space has lost.
So, together with the space of La Capella, we will create a space of artistic inspiration, with a touch of innovation and novelty that will give a fresh air to the historic enclave.
With this previous study, both social and cultural space and architectural, we began to elaborate a basic concept.

Then we made an objective analysis with the intention of implementing a radical concept to design and create this space of social and artistic cohesion.
Seeing the traditionality and the petreous image that this space had, we wanted to play with the contrast to generate a space with new stimuli.
This contrast is based on the exaggeration of the traditional and native materiality of the building, enlarging the relevant aspects that we could see at first sight and expand and exaggerate them exaggeratedly.
It is also based on the light contrast, where through light points and self-illuminated materials this double play is created in space, as we will explain later.
This will cause a visual shock to users, which would give rise to creative inspiration based in Barcelona.
When using native materials from the area, this space is already based on the idea of material efficiency, since we make a responsible use of these when applying single-material zones.
They are very traditional materials, which form the basis of the building of La Massana, where we could even find large quantities stored.
